British
writer Annabel Knight studied Drama at the University of Kent. She worked
for 3 years with the community theatre company Nasty Dog, touring shows
on social and community issues. The company also toured regularly and
extensively in Northern Ireland and was involved in cross community
schools projects.
Annabel then moved to Bratislava, Slovakia and worked as an actress
with INTheatre Company. One of the highlights of this period was a national
tour of Ionesco's 'The Chairs'.
Returning to the UK, Annabel then wrote the play ‘A Strange bit
of History' which won the ‘Spirit of the Fringe’ Award at
the Edinburgh fringe Festival in 1994. Since then she has worked extensively
as a writer and collaborator with the well known Anglo-Iranian stand
up comic Omid Djalili whose show 'Behind Enemy Lines' was nominated
for the Perrier Award at Edinburgh in 2002.
Annabel was commissioned by Handmaid productions to write PURE in the
spring of 2003. After its first performance in July of that year the
play toured the UK and in March 2004 was performed at the UN Headquarters
in New York. She is currently workshopping her new play called 'Angie'.
